200 China Stocks Join MSCI Index

15 May 2018

A Wall Street Journal article on MSCI, the global provider of market indices, notes the addition of 234 Chinese stocks (“A-shares”) to the Emerging Market Index and the China Index. The new shares will comprise only 40 basis points of the Emerging Market and 130 basis points of the China Index. The decision is the culmination of a three-year process, which required China to link the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges to the Hong Kong exchange. The 234 companies are only a fraction of the 3,000 companies that are currently listed on the two Chinese exchanges.
